The story of Adelanto

Adelanto — Spanish for 'progress' — was founded in 1915 by E.H. Richardson, the inventor of the first electric clothes iron, who bought 1,000 acres and planted it in apples and pears as a health colony for World War I veterans. Frost and water costs ended the orchards, but Victorville Army Airfield's overflow, later George Air Force Base, kept the town alive. Incorporated in 1970, Adelanto today is one of the fastest-changing cities in San Bernardino County, with new logistics development along Highway 395 and some of the most affordable new-construction and raw-land opportunities anywhere in Southern California.
