The story of View Park

Master-planned in 1923 by the Olmsted Brothers — the same landscape architects behind Central Park — View Park was designed with curving streets that follow the hill's natural contours. After the 1948 Shelley v. Kraemer Supreme Court decision struck down racially restrictive covenants, it became home to a generation of Black doctors, attorneys, entertainers, and athletes — earning the name 'Black Beverly Hills.' The entire district was designated a historic district in 2016, one of the largest in the U.S. for African American historic significance.
