The story of West Adams

Once known as the 'Wilshire of its day,' West Adams was Los Angeles's first elite suburb, developed in the 1880s–1920s for railroad barons, oil families, and the city's first millionaires. It holds the city's densest collection of Victorian, Craftsman, and Beaux-Arts mansions. By the 1940s, racial covenants pushed many Black and Japanese American families westward, and West Adams became one of LA's most diverse historic districts. After decades of disinvestment, restoration is now driving record-breaking sales, with homes that once sold for $40,000 now fetching millions.
