Steel town turned Inland Empire powerhouse.
Fontana began in 1913 as A.B. Miller's citrus and poultry colony, then changed forever in 1942 when Henry J. Kaiser built the West Coast's first integrated steel mill here to supply Liberty ships. The mill drew tens of thousands of workers and gave the city its blue-collar backbone; when it closed in 1983, Fontana reinvented itself around logistics, Auto Club Speedway, and large master-planned communities. North Fontana's newer tracts sit against the San Gabriel foothills with mountain views, while the older south side offers character homes on generous lots at Inland Empire pricing.
