Leimert Park Real Estate

The cultural heart of Black Los Angeles.

The story of Leimert Park

Developed in 1928 by Walter H. Leimert as one of LA's first master-planned communities with underground utilities and a central park, Leimert Park was marketed to white middle-class families. When restrictive covenants were struck down, it became the undisputed cultural heart of Black Los Angeles — a hub for jazz, spoken word, Afrofuturism, and Black-owned businesses. The World Stage, founded by Billy Higgins, and the Vision Theatre anchor a cultural district unlike any other in the city. In 2020, Leimert Park was officially designated an Arts District by the city of Los Angeles.
