The Model Colony — airport city with old-California bones.

The story of Ontario

Founded in 1882 by Canadian engineer brothers George and William Chaffey, Ontario was laid out as the 'Model Colony,' with Euclid Avenue running seven miles straight from the foothills to the valley floor and a mutual water company that became a template for irrigation colonies worldwide. Citrus packing houses and the Santa Fe line built the early wealth; today Ontario International Airport, the Ontario Mills corridor, and Ontario Ranch — one of the largest master-planned developments in California — drive one of the Inland Empire's strongest new-construction markets. Historic Euclid Avenue craftsman and Spanish revival homes still anchor the north side.
