The story of Rancho Cucamonga
The name comes from the Kucamonga Tongva village and the 1839 Rancho Cucamonga land grant to Tiburcio Tapia, who planted vineyards that made this one of California's oldest wine districts — the Rancho Cucamonga Winery, founded in 1839, still stands. Alta Loma, Cucamonga, and Etiwanda merged into a single city in 1977, and careful planning since then has produced Victoria Gardens, strong schools, and tree-lined neighborhoods that step up toward the mountains. Alta Loma's north-side estates on half-acre and horse-zoned lots remain the most sought-after addresses in the western Inland Empire.
