The story of Victorville

Founded in 1885 as a rail stop named for Santa Fe construction superintendent Jacob Nash Victor, Victorville spent the mid-century as both a cement town and a Hollywood backlot — hundreds of Westerns were shot in its rock formations, and Roy Rogers made it his home. George Air Force Base anchored the economy from 1941 until its 1992 closure, and the site's conversion into the Southern California Logistics Airport brought distribution and aviation jobs back. Today Victorville is the retail, medical, and civic center of the Victor Valley, with a housing stock ranging from 1950s bungalows near Old Town to master-planned tracts in Spring Valley Lake and Eagle Ranch.
